Erin explores and draws inspiration from a wide range of art movements and techniques—from 19th century quilts to pop art to visible mending—while also incorporating compositional details from the world around her. Previously producing works in paint, Erin began experimenting with thread in 2019 when looking for a medium that would give her vivid, opaque blocks of color while allowing her to create precise, sculptural lines. Erin hand sews all of her fiber pieces primarily using sewing thread and, occasionally, embroidery floss. She challenges herself to fabricate her work with patience and precision, and she presents ideas and questions that she finds thought provoking. Her hope with each piece is to engage the viewer in a conversation.
Erin received her Bachelor of Arts in art history from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania and a Master’s of Library and Information Science from the University of Pittsburgh. She has taken classes in embroidery, weaving, and other fine art mediums from the Textile Arts Center, School of the Art Institute of Chicago, and the DuPage Art League. Originally from Pennsylvania and Virginia, Erin lives and works in the suburbs outside of Chicago.
